The Viking chant: an ancient war cry?
The 'Viking' chant heard at recent football matches has been described as a Viking war cry. However, this is not the case. According to the Icelandic team, the chant was borrowed from Motherwell FC in Scotland. Stjarnan football club in Iceland played Motherwell in 2014. Their fans were so impressed by Motherwell's thunderclap chant that they borrowed it, and from there it found its way to the national side and then to international attention.
