The World-Tree in Branding

Yggdrasill, or an unnamed World-Tree, is often used in branding, ranging from commercial companies to educational projects, avatars, and publicity materials. Below are several examples that illustrate the range of imagery, but this selection is sure to grow!

Here we see the use of the World-Tree in the logo for an online gaming and casino company, Yggdrasil Gaming Ltd. Whilst there are several Norse-themed companies using World-Tree imagery, it perhaps also appeals as a symbol due to its superlative and 'superior' stature.

This is the logo of Yggdrasill Heildsala (or wholesale): an Icelandic company which specialises in the importing of organic food and health products. Here the World-Tree seems to be connected with both with sustainability and growth, and with international reach.

This is the logo of the European commission project YGGDRASIL: European culture, language and identity in a new world, which involved cooporation between schools in different countries. The logo clearly reflects the European nature of this intiative.

This final image is not a brand logo, but as a stamp of the Faroe Isles in a 2003 series depicting mythical themes, it does play a role in representing the Føroyar to the world. The Norns gather round a ghostly-white tree in this image by artist Anker Eli Petersen.
