The World-Tree Logo
Designing Our Logo
The graphic designer who produced the logo for the World-Tree Project (Anne-Kathrin Schoerner) took into account the different ways in which Yggdrasill had been represented in the past, as well as the aims of the Project, to produce this stylised image of the World-Tree.
Instead of grappling with the notion of a tree that connects different worlds and the detail of how this relates to the wider cosmos, the designer paired down the imagery to the idea of a tree whose branches and roots are interconnected. Rather than a completely symetrical design, the various twists and turns of the branches are a nod to the complexity of the World-Tree as represented in Norse literature and to the intricate patterns favoured in Viking-Age artwork.
We think that the logo is an excellent representation of what we hope to achieve on the project: to connect the many branches of engagement with the vikings into a single living archive. We hope you agree!
